Boosting Male Fertility

Boosting Male Fertility with Gaynor Grozier Acupuncture

When it comes to fertility, it doesn’t just start with the egg. In fact, it starts with the sperm. Male infertility accounts for about 30% of all infertility cases, yet it often receives less attention than female fertility issues. At Gaynor Grozier Acupuncture, we believe in addressing the root causes of infertility, and that includes focusing on male fertility health.

The following information and much more can be found in my FREE downloadable Fertile Fit Framework E-book

Understanding Sperm Health

First and foremost understanding your sperm health is crucial, below we provide detailed insights into the key factors affecting sperm quality.

Sperm Motility: Healthy sperm move forward with at least 25 micrometres per second. Progressive motility, where sperm move in large circles or straight lines, is essential for navigating the female reproductive tract.

Morphology: The shape of sperm, including tail and head defects, can affect fertility. Abnormalities in shape are common but don’t always require assisted reproductive techniques like ICSI.

Volume, Concentration, and Vitality: A semen analysis measures the volume of ejaculate, sperm concentration, and the percentage of live sperm. These factors provide a comprehensive picture of male fertility.

Time to Liquefaction: Semen needs to liquefy within 20-30 minutes post-ejaculation for sperm to swim efficiently. Delays in this process can indicate infections or issues with accessory glands.

Semen pH: An ideal pH level between 7.2 and 8 helps protect sperm and supports their health. Too acidic or alkaline environments can impair sperm quality.

White Blood Cell Count: High white blood cell levels in semen can indicate infections or varicocele, affecting sperm quality.

Varicocele: Enlarged veins in the scrotum can overheat testes, lowering sperm production and function. This condition often goes unnoticed but can significantly impact fertility.

Overcoming Varicocele with Acupuncture

In my Fertile Fit Framework, I share a case study about a couple who had been trying to conceive for a couple of years without success. They were excited to start their first round of In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) after being referred to a fertility clinic by their doctor. Despite basic hormone tests and an ultrasound indicating that everything was normal, the couple found the IVF process stressful and overwhelming, especially the man, who felt immense pressure during the procedure.

Unfortunately, the first round of IVF failed, and subsequent rounds added financial and emotional strain as they used their savings to fund the treatments. In their quest to improve their chances, the couple made lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise, and decided to try acupuncture.

During their first acupuncture appointment, a referral to an andrologist was made, leading to the discovery of a varicocele in the man. After a simple procedure to correct it, he felt significant relief, and the couple continued with their acupuncture sessions, nutrition, and supplements.

Remarkably, they conceived naturally without needing another round of IVF. This case highlights the importance of thorough examinations and testing, as well as the potential benefits of integrating acupuncture and holistic approaches into fertility treatments.

The Benefits of Acupuncture for Male Fertility

Acupuncture can significantly enhance male fertility by:

  • Improving sperm motility and morphology.
  • Enhancing blood flow to the reproductive organs, supporting sperm health.
  • Reducing stress and promoting relaxation, which are crucial for fertility.
  • Supporting overall hormonal balance and addressing underlying health issues.

Where to Start: Health Coaching and Acupuncture

If you’re experiencing fertility challenges, your first step should be to undertake standard hormone tests. Alongside conventional treatments and IVF, you could consider integrating acupuncture and health coaching to optimise your reproductive environment.
